A lot of Marvel fans know that Eddie Brock and his alter-ego Venom didn’t have the best cinematic debut in 2007 when they appeared in the bloated Spider-Man 3.
But the character is now getting the solo treatment in the upcoming origin film Venom which sees the very productive Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road, Peaky Blinders) take on the role of the Marvel anti-hero.
Following the release of an underwhelming teaser back in February, the comic-book flick’s new action-packed trailer has now premiered and can be seen below:
Helmed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad), the plot sees journalist Eddie Brock investigate a dodgy symbiote experimentation which is being overseen by a sinister doctor. However he soon finds himself becoming infused with the symbiote which causes him to develop a terrifying alter-ego.
Hardy is supported in the film by Michelle Williams (My Week with Marilyn, The Greatest Showman), Riz Ahmed (Four Lions, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Jenny Slate (Zootopia, Bob’s Burgers) and Woody Harrelson (Hunger Games series, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).
The film is NOT linked to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) owing to Sony’s current deal with Marvel who have managed to include Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and this week’s Avengers: Infinity War.
Venom will be released in the UK on October 5th.
