A spellbinding trailer has flown in for Wicked: For Good.
The upcoming sequel to last year’s huge musical hit Wicked from Jon M. Chu is hoping to ‘defy’ expectations and bring further joy to fans of the original stage musical from Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz.
The plot follows on from the dramatic events of the previous instalment as Elphaba Thropp grapples with her new identity as the “Wicked Witch of the West”, while Glinda “the Good” Upland is forced to take responsibility of her assigned role as Oz’s defender against her old friend.
To the surprise of no one, beloved stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande reprise their cherished roles as Elphaba and Glinda respectively, and are joined by fellow returnees Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero Tigelaar), Marissa Bode (Nessarose Thropp), Ethan Slater (Boq Woodsman), Bowen Yang (Pfannee), Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible), and Jeff Goldblum (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz).
The original Wicked film, which was loosely based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire and a reimagining of the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and its 1939 film adaptation, was a ‘popular’ phenomenon with audiences in late 2024 and went on to gross over $755 million worldwide.
In the meantime, Wicked: For Good will look to leave a handprint on our hearts like its predecessor when it comes to UK cinemas on 26 November.
