As his latest action film Jack Reacher prepares to reach cinemas around Christmas time, Tom Cruise is already geared up for another blockbuster offering in 2013 as the first trailer for his new sci-fi thriller Oblivion shows.

Once again, Cruise plays a character named Jack (surname being Harper), who is assigned to Earth to extract resources in the aftermath of a huge war as part of his job as a technician. However upon encountering some human survivors, Jack faces a quest to save mankind with the threat of an alien species still abound on the planet.

The film is adapted by comic-book writer turned film director Joseph Kosinski (Tron Legacy) with Cruise supported in the film by Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman (The Shawshank Redemption, The Dark Knight trilogy), Olga Kurylenko (Hitman, Quantum of Solace), Andrea Riseborough (Made in Dagenham, Shadow Dancer) and Oscar-winner Melissa Leo (Frozen River, The Fighter).
