Having portrayed the role of super spy Ethan Hunt in four Mission Impossible films, Tom Cruise has been officially confirmed to return as the character once again in the upcoming fifth installment of the action series.

Deadline revealed the news of the actor’s reprisal following the box-office success of 2011’s Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol which made almost $700 million worldwide.

Cruise had already spoken about his involvement with the new whilst appearing on The Graham Norton Show recently.

It is likely that the Oscar-nominated actor could reunite with director Christopher McQuarrie after the pair worked together on last year’s Jack Reacher.

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions are looking to announce further news regarding McQuarrie and the crew/release date at a later stage.
