Sir Michael Caine and the late Glenda Jackson play elderly lovers in The Great Escaper trailer

An official trailer has landed for The Great Escaper.

The factual drama pairs two-time Oscar-winning British legend Sir Michael Caine (The Italian Job, Hannah and Her Sisters, The Dark Knight trilogy) alongside the late two-time Oscar-winning actress Glenda Jackson (Women in Love, A Touch of Class, Elizabeth is Missing), who passed away in June.

Directed by Oliver Parker (An Ideal Husband, Funny Woman), the story focuses on how war veteran Bernard Jordan (Caine) staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow veterans on a beach in Normandy, commemorating their fallen comrades at the D-Day Landings 70th anniversary.

In her final on-screen role, Jackson co-stars as Rene, Bernard’s wife of sixty years alongside Danielle Vitalis (Attack the Block, I May Destroy You), Will Fletcher (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Tom Jones), Laura Marcus (Bad Education, Tom Jones), Donald Sage Mackay (Deep State, Wreck), and John Standing (The Eagle Has Landed, The Elephant Man).

The Great Escaper will arrive in cinemas on 6 October.
