Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson and Florence Pugh play the March sisters in Little Women trailer

Between the four of them, actresses Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh and Eliza Scanlen have all achieved great success in their young careers.

The talented quartet have now come together to play the March sisters in a new film adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel Little Women.

Cited as a potential awards contender, the period drama’s official trailer has now landed.

Directed by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), the film centres on the March sisters Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg as they come of age in America in the aftermath of the Civil War. Though all very different from each other, the March sisters stand by each other through difficult and changing times.

Ronan (Lady Bird, Mary Queen of Scots), Watson (Harry Potter series, Beauty and the Beast), Pugh (Fighting With My Family, Midsomer) and Scanlen (Home and Away, Sharp Objects) have all been cast in the respective roles of Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth.

Additionally, the rest of the film’s impressive ensemble includes Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Beautiful Boy), Laura Dern (Jurassic Park, Big Little Lies), James Norton (Happy Valley, Grantchester), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul, The Post), Chris Cooper (Adaptation, Seabiscuit) and three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep (Sophie’s Choice, The Devil Wears Prada, The Iron Lady).

This is the third cinematic version of Alcott’s book following the previous big-screen releases in 1949 and 1994.

Little Women will be released in the UK on Boxing Day.
