Ricky Gervais is back as cringeworthy office manager David Brent in Life on the Road trailer

Television’s greatest office employee is finally making his long-awaited comeback as Ricky Gervais reprises his iconic role as businessman David Brent in an upcoming film.

The character, made famous in the British sitcom The Office (2001-03), was widely loved by television audiences despite his cringe-inducing humour and deluded personality.

But now, he is making a return to our screens via the cinematic route in David Brent: Life on the Road which has premiered its official trailer.

Directed by Gervais himself, the film sees Brent becoming the focus of a new documentary series as he now undergoes a new profession as a travelling salesman. However he decides to embark on a musical career for which he forms a new band named Foregone Conclusion.

Rapper Doc Brown features as one of Brent’s bandmates with Jo Hartley (This is England series, Eddie the Eagle) and Rebecca Gethings (The Thick of It) also starring in the comedy spinoff.

However Gervais’ former Office co-stars Martin Freeman (Tim), MacKenzie Crook (Gareth) and Lucy Davis (Dawn) are unlikely to feature.

David Brent: Life on the Road will be released in cinemas on August 19th.
