“Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?”

As most of you know, those two lines are the opening lyrics to one of the greatest songs of all-time in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (1976); as memorably performed by the much-loved British band Queen.

For the past forty years, their music has been lauded by fans and critics alike with other hit singles including “Another One Bites the Dust”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “I Want To Break Free”, “Killer Queen”, “Radio Gaga”, “Somebody to Love”, “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions”.

A big-screen biopic about the group’s career has been in the works for a number of years but has suffered from a number of production issues which included a change of leading star and director.

Thankfully, fans will be delighted to know that the long wait for Bohemian Rhapsody is finally over following the release of its first trailer.

Helmed by Dexter Fletcher (Sunshine on Leith, Eddie the Eagle), the film depicts the band’s rise to stardom and their troubles with lead singer Freddie Mercury whose erratic lifestyle would spiral out of control. It will also focus on their memorable performance at the Live Aid concert held at the old Wembley Stadium in 1985.

The role of Freddie is being played by American actor Rami Malek who is best known for his Emmy award-winning role as troubled computer hacker Elliot Alderson in the thriller series Mr. Robot.

The actors portraying the rest of the band are Gwilym Lee (Midsomer Murders, Jamestown) as Brian May, Ben Hardy (EastEnders, X-Men: Apocalypse) as Roger Taylor and Joseph Mazzello (Jurassic Park, The Social Network) as John Deacon.

The remaining cast members for the biopic include Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones, Peaky Blinders), Lucy Boynton (Sing Street, Murder on the Orient Express), Tom Hollander (Rev, The Night Manager), Allen Leech (Rome, Downton Abbey), Aaron McCusker (Shameless, Fortitude), Ace Bhatti (EastEnders, Three Girls), Michelle Duncan (Atonement, The Broken) and Mike Myers (Wayne’s World, Austin Powers trilogy).

Let’s all pray that Bohemian Rhapsody is a kind of magic when it is released in the UK on 24th October!
