Marvel announces all-star cast for Captain America: Civil War

With Avengers: Age of Ultron currently entertaining audiences around the world, Marvel are moving swiftly forward with Phase 3 of their Cinematic Universe.

But while the third Avengers film is not due out until the end of the decade, fans are set to be in for a treat with regards to Marvel’s next big blockbuster.

The studio made a huge announcement today confirming that a host of stars (old and new) will feature in the upcoming Captain America sequel Civil War.

As predicted, Chris Evans will reprise his role as Steve Rogers/Captain America with fellow Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow) and Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye) also involved in the comic-book flick.

But wait there’s more….

The newer Avengers from Age of Ultron are also set to figure in Civil War which include Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as The Vision.

Hold on, there’s even more!

Joining Evans and Mackie from previous Captain America film The Winter Soldier are Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter and Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones.

And still more?!

Paul Rudd will be reprising his new Marvel role as Scott Lang/Ant-Man which follows up his debut in the character’s own film Ant-Man which screens in July. We will also be getting a glimpse of another new Marvel superhero in T’Challa/Black Panther who will be played by Chadwick Boseman (’42, Get On Up).

One welcoming return is that of Oscar-winner William Hurt who is back as General Thaddeus Ross, several years after his last Marvel appearance in the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk.

Finally, there are two significant actors whose roles have yet to be revealed as of yet which are Daniel Bruhl (Inglorious Basterds, Rush) and British star Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit trilogy) though the former is tipped to play Civil War’s main villain Baron Zemo.

Did I forget to mention that the new Spider-Man could also be making an appearance too? No news on his involvement or his casting at this current stage….

Phew that was a lot of people to get through!

The film’s plot is set to follow on from the events of Age of Ultron in which Steve Rogers will lead the new team of Avengers as they look to continue saving the world. However when another international incident involving the superheroes occurs, they face growing political pressure which results in Captain America clashing with Iron Man.

The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo are back to helm the comic-book epic with filming set to take place in Germany, Puerto Rico and Iceland.

Captain America: Civil War will be released in the UK on April 29th 2016.
