Mark Rylance is the Big Friendly Giant in official trailer for Steven Spielberg’s The BFG

2016 has already proved to be a very successful one for Mark Rylance after he recently clinched the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his stellar turn in the Cold War biopic Bridge of Spies. He’s also done rather well on the small screen too after he received a BAFTA nomination last week for his leading role in the historical drama Wolf Hall.

The established stage actor is now set to make the ‘giant’ step towards becoming a box-office star as he reunites with his ‘Spies’ director, the great Steven Spielberg (Jaws, E.T: The Extra Terrestrial, Indiana Jones series) for the upcoming fantasy adventure The BFG.

Following the release of a teaser a couple of months ago, the film’s official trailer can be seen below…

Adapted from the beloved children’s story by Roald Dahl, the plot sees orphan Sophie taken by the Big Friendly Giant (Rylance) to his magical home known as Giant Country. The pair forge an unlikely bond as they attempt to get the better of man-eating giants.

Newcomer Ruby Barnhill plays the young heroine with additional support coming from Rebecca Hall (The Town, Iron Man 3), Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live, Trainwreck), Jemaine Clement (Men in Black 3, Rio 2), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (A Walk Amongst the Tombstones, The Last Witch Hunter) and Penelope Wilton (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Downton Abbey).

The BFG will be released in the UK on July 22nd.
