Jude Law’s Dumbledore faces off against a new-look Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore trailer

Twenty(!) years ago, the magical world of Harry Potter was brought to cinematic life via a series of smash hit films that remain cherished by hardcore fans.

While it’s been a decade since we last saw Harry and co. on the big-screen, the origins of that fantasy universe have been further explored in the Fantastic Beasts prequels.

Both Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and its sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) were both commercial hits at the box-office, yet struggled to garner the same credible reviews as its predecessors.

However, a third film of the prequel series is finally set to arrive next year in the form of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. The film’s official trailer has premiered online and can be watched below:

Helmed by franchise regular David Yates, the plot sees a young Albus Dumbledore entrust Newt Scamander and his companions with a dangerous mission to stop the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald from seizing control of the wizarding world.

Jude Law reprises his role as Dumbledore alongside Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne as Newt. Additionally, the other familiar names back for this outing include Ezra Miller (as Credence Barebone), Dan Fogler (as Jacob Kowalski), Alison Sudol (as Queenie Goldstein), Callum Turner (as Theseus Scamander), Jessica Williams (as Eulalie Hicks) and Katherine Waterston (as Tina Goldstein).

However, there is one major change in the casting department with Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) stepping into the shoes of Grindelwald. He replaces Johnny Depp following the controversial court case involving Depp and his former wife Amber Heard.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore will be released in the UK on 7 April 2022.
