Marvel fans rejoice! Following the incredible success of the superhero blockbuster The Avengers, there has been a huge boost for the studios after the film’s writer and director Joss Whedon was confirmed to be doing it all again for the sequel.

Disney revealed the news last night which doesn’t surprise many considering the stunning $1.46 billion that The Avengers had made earlier this year.

It has also been revealed that Whedon will create a Marvel-related TV series for ABC that will continue the franchise’s legacy on both small AND big screen.

UPDATE: Marvel Studios have now announced that the sequel will be released on May 1st 2015 as issued in a statement:

“The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to the biggest superhero blockbuster and third highest-grossing film of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers. Joss Whedon returns to write and direct the untitled Marvel’s Avengers sequel, set for release on May 1, 2015.”

The superhero genre just keeps growing and growing!
