Jessica Chastain to star in The Zookeeper’s Wife

This girl just doesn’t stop working….

Following her recent casting in the Guillermo Del Toro-directed Crimson Peak, Jessica Chastain is now looking to raise her profile as a consistent award-worthy actress after signing up to star in The Zookeeper’s Wife.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the Oscar-nominated star of The Help and Zero Dark Thirty will take on the role of real-life zookeeper Antonina Zabinski in the upcoming biopic drama.

Based on the novel by Diane Ackerman, the story focuses on the real-life zookeeper couple Antonina and her husband Jan as they helped smuggle Jewish refugees out of Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II. While Jan later fought in the Polish resistance, Antonina helped to boost the morale of the community of human and animal guests during their hiding.

The film will be helmed by female director Niki Caro (Whale Rider, North County) though the role of Jan Zabinski has yet to be filled.

Could this be Jessica’s potential Oscar-winning role? We shall see….
