James Spader cast as main villain in The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Having produced some underrated work in television shows like Boston Legal and The Office, James Spader has landed his biggest role to date with the help of Marvel.

The studio have confirmed via their website that the Emmy-award winning actor will be playing the villainous Ultron in the upcoming comic-book sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The 53 year-old has also figured in accomplished films like Secretary (2002) and last year’s Oscar-winning drama Lincoln (2012).

Ultron himself is described as being an AI with a robotic body and strong powers and is seen as one of Marvel’s greatest villains (even more so then Loki!).

Avengers director Joss Whedon had this to say on the character:

“I knew right away what I wanted to do with him. He’s always trying to destroy the Avengers, goddamn it, he’s got a bee in his bonnet. He’s not a happy guy, which means he’s an interesting guy. He’s got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff.”

The film is due for release in cinemas on May 1st 2015.
