Halle Bailey’s Ariel dreams of becoming part of our world in new trailer for The Little Mermaid

A glitzy full-length trailer has been unveiled for Disney’s new take on The Little Mermaid.

The live-action adaptation of the beloved 1990 animated classic sees young artist and actress Halle Bailey (Grow-ish) take us back under the sea with her portrayal of heroic mermaid Ariel.

Directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Mary Poppins Returns), the familiar story follows a disillusioned mermaid who makes a deal with a sea witch, to trade her beautiful voice for human legs, so she can discover the world above water and impress a prince.

Oscar-nominee Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters) tackles the memorable role of the sinister Ursula alongside Jonah Hauer-King (A Dog’s Way Home, World on Fire) as Prince Eric, Jude Akuwudike (Beasts of No Nation, Manhunt) as Grimsby, Kajsa Mohammar (Misbehaviour, Eurovision) as Karina, Lorena Andrea (Papillon, Warrior Nun) as Perla, Noma Dumezweni (Mary Poppins Returns, The Undoing) as Queen Selina and Oscar-winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall) as King Triton

Additionally, the film also features the voices of Jacob Tremblay (Room, Wonder) as Flounder, Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Snowpiercer) as Sebastian and Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) as Scuttle.

The Little Mermaid will be released in UK cinemas on 26 May.
