Frustrated novelist Jeffrey Wright writes an outlandish book about his race in American Fiction trailer

An official trailer has landed for American Fiction.

Fresh from winning the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, the upcoming satirical comedy sees Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, The Batman) the centre of attention in a film that could make a splash this awards season.

Written and directed by newcomer Cord Jefferson, the plot centres on an unhappy novelist (Wright) who grows discontent with the industry profiting from ‘black’ entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. As a result, he then decides to write an outlandish ‘black’ book of his own that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy, and the madness he claims to disdain.

Wright is joined by an impressive support cast that includes Tracee Ellis Ross (Girlfriends, Black-ish,), Issa Rae (Insecure, Barbie), John Ortiz (Silver Linings Playbook, Steve Jobs), Erika Alexander (Get Out, Shining Girls), Adam Brody (The O.C., Shazam!), Leslie Uggams (Roots, Deadpool), Patrick Fischler (Mulholland Drive, Mad Men), Michael Cyril Creighton (Only Murders in the Building, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Keith David (The Thing, They Live), and Sterling K. Brown (This is Us, Black Panther).

A UK release date for American Fiction will be revealed in due course.
