Nicholas Hoult climbs the beanstalk as Jack in official trailer for Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Slayer

Fans of the British comedy About a Boy (2002) will no doubt remember the gawky but innocent boy who befriended Hugh Grant’s character. That young man was played by Nicholas Hoult who since then has propelled himself into the Hollywood limelight with his supporting roles in blockbuster films such as Clash of the Titans (2010) and X-Men: First Class (2011).

But next year will see Hoult finally get his chance in a lead role as he plays the fairytale hero Jack in Bryan Singer’s big-screen adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk. The first trailer for Jack the Giant Slayer was unveiled earlier today.

Originally entitled Jack the Giant Killer, the film sees Jack joining forces with proud knight Elmont (Ewan McGregor) to try and rescue Princess Isabelle (newcomer Eleanor Tomlinson) by climbing up a giant beanstalk which leads them to the land of the giants. However the rescue is complicated by the giants as they attempt to return to Earth.

Stanley Tucci (Beethoven, The Lovely Bones), Ian McShane (Sexy Beast, Deadwood) and Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Pirates of the Caribbean) are amongst the experienced supporting actors who star in the fantasy adventure.

The film was due for release back in June but was delayed and is now set to reach cinemas in March 2013.

Looks like next year will be dominated by the fantasy genre with Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Oz: The Great and Powerful, Epic and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug all due out during 2013!
