Slave Jamie Foxx battles to rescue his wife from Leonardo DiCaprio in official trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained

Quentin Tarantino has been taking time with making his next film though having tackled Germans in his last one, he now switches his attention to the Wild West as the official trailer for his newest film Django Unchained proves.

Django sees Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx (Collateral, Ray) play a freed slave named Django who travels across the US to free his wife Broomhilda (played by Kerry Washington) from evil plantation owner Calvin Candie (a potentially scene-stealing turn from Leonardo DiCaprio).

Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar for his role as Colonel Hans Landa in Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds, plays a dentist-turned-bounty hunter who accompanies Django on his journey.

So far so good and there has been a lot of anticipation forĀ  Tarantino’s next flick but already this one looks very promising with the maverick director back to his artistic ways behind the camera. The Western genre has been a little weak in recent times but Django could restore it back to its former glory in terms of setting.

As for the actors, Foxx has been due a solid comeback film having focused more on his musical career lately. However it looks as though he’ll be overshadowed by his co-stars (Waltz and DiCaprio). Both are sublime actors who know when to own a scene but the main attention will be on DiCaprio who looks like he’s enjoying himself with his villainous turn while going completely against character-type.

The film will be released in the UK on January 18th 2013.
