Since being created by DC Comics way back in 1941, the character of Diana Prince / Wonder Woman has barely been given a chance to feature in any big-screen outings.
But fans of the kick-ass heroine will be pleased to know that not only will she be making her official cinematic debut in the 2016 comic-book blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice but that she’ll also be getting her own spin-off film.
Fast & Furious star Gal Gadot was cast in the role a couple of years ago and has already been glimpsed at in the official trailer for the DC Comics epic.
There are no details about the plot as of yet but the film will be helmed by female director Patty Jenkins (Monster, AMC’s The Killing) with Dawn of Justice filmmaker Zack Snyder serving as producer.
There is also an official cast that will be supporting Gadot with the biggest name being Star Trek actor Chris Pine as Wonder Woman’s love interest, Captain Steve Trevor.
The rest of the ensemble also includes Robin Wright (Forrest Gump, House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Robin Hood), David Thewlis (Harry Potter series, The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting, Pearl Harbor) and Lucy Davis (The Office, Shaun of the Dead).
Filming will take place in the UK, France and Italy with a release date scheduled for 2017.
