21 films shortlisted for Best Animated Feature Film Oscar

With the Oscars just under three months away, the Academy have unveiled a long-list of the 21 films that will battle it out for five slots in the category of Best Animated Feature Film.

The 21 submitted contenders, listed in alphabetical order by title, are:

  • Adventures in Zambezia
  • Brave
  • Delhi Safari
  • Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax
  • Frankenweenie
  • From Up on Poppy Hill
  • Hey Krishna
  • Hotel Transylvania
  • Ice Age Continental Drift
  • A Liar’s Autobiography: The Untrue Story of Monty Python’s Graham Chapman
  • Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted
  • The Mystical Laws
  • The Painting
  • ParaNorman
  • The Pirates! Band of Misfits
  • The Rabbi’s Cat
  • Rise of the Guardians
  • Secret of the Wings
  • Walter & Tandoori’s Christmas
  • Wreck-It Ralph
  • Zarafa

Some intriguing contenders on this list though it’s a bad thing to say that the only one I have seen is The Pirates! Band of Misfits which will probably miss out on a nod despite Nick Park’s popularity with the Academy. Disney look certain to dominate in this category with Brave, Frankenweenie and Wreck-It-Ralph looking safe for nominations while Paramount’s Rise of the Guardians is currently predicted as the frontrunner.

Average mainstream films on the list also include Hotel Transylvania, Ice Age: Continential Drift and Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted while solid foreign choices such as From Up on Poppy Hill and The Painting are being recommended by film fanatics and critics.
