2023 Tony Awards: Jodie Comer lands Best Leading Actress accolade

The major acting honours keep on coming for Jodie Comer after a successful evening at the 2023 Tony Awards.

The Liverpudlian star deservedly clinched the Best Leading Actress in a Play gong for her devastating performance as a brilliant criminal lawyer who becomes the victim of sexual assault in the powerful play Prima Facie.

Jodie faced stern competition from other strong contenders in Oscar-winning actress Jessica Chastain (A Doll’s House), Jessica Hecht (Summer, 1976), and multiple Tony-winner Audra McDonald (Ohio State Murders).

During her speech, she paid tribute to the Prima Facie team and expressed her gratitude about the role being her greatest honour.

This latest triumph comes just over two months after Jodie won the same accolade at the Olivier Awards. She now joins an exclusive club of actors to have won the two biggest theatre prizes for playing the same role including Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Mark Rylance.

Furthermore, she is now halfway towards achieving ‘EGOT’ status after winning an Emmy for her performance in Killing Eve back in 2019. As things stand, she now requires a Grammy and an Oscar to complete the feat.

In the meantime, audiences can catch Jodie’s multiple award-winning performance on Broadway for another three weeks.
