Gangster films have been a bit disappointing in recent years but the latest release from that genre looks rather bad-ass courtesy of its trailer!
Ruben Fleischer gives us Gangster Squad which is based on the true story of the LAPD’s battle with the East Coast mob in the 1940s and ’50s. It features a solid ensemble including Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men, Milk), the hard-working Ryan Gosling (Half Nelson, Drive), Nick Nolte (The Prince of Tides, Warrior), Emma Stone (Easy A, The Help) and an unrecognisable Sean Penn (Mystic River, Milk).
The trailer shows Brolin’s character Sgt John O’Mara assembling a group of rogue cops to confront gangster boss Micky Cohen (Penn).
Anyone getting an Untouchables vibe about this? We have yet another stylish looking gangster film which has managed to gain a strong cast of versatile actors but can they shine or will the film prove flawed like Public Enemies was? We shall see….
The crime thriller is due out on November 9th.
