With Marvel continuing to expand their comic-book film network as part of the Avengers universe, they have also been working on doing the same thing for the X-Men stories.
One particular character to become the recipient of a spin-off is the former Special Forces Operative-turned-mercenary Wade Wilson, whose alter-ego is the anti-superhero Deadpool.
Played by Ryan Reynolds (Smokin’ Aces, R.I.P.D), the character had a small role in the 2009 X-Men Origins spin-off Wolverine, that left many fans disappointed by his lack of screen-time.
Following its premiere at Comic-Con last night, 20th Century Fox have finally released the film’s gritty trailer, which provides a lot of swearing and brutal violence!
Directed by former visual effects creator Tim Miller (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), the plot sees Wilson vow to track down an evil scientist after being subjected to a rogue experiment that gives him superpowers.
Reynolds will be hoping for more success with this superhero film after his ill-fated lead role in the DC Comics flop Green Lantern (2011).
The supporting cast portraying other lesser known X-Men characters include Morena Baccarin (Homeland, V) as Copycat, Gina Carano (Haywire, Fast & Furious 6) as Angel Dust, TJ Miller (Silicon Valley, Big Hero 6) as Weasel and Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones, The Transporter Refueled) as Ajax.
Deadpool will be released in the UK on February 5th 2016.
