Over the past decade or so, Robert Pattinson has built a strong following of fans through his roles in the likes of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Remember Me (2010) and of course, the Twilight Saga (2008-12).
The Scottish actor is now making the coincidental leap from playing vampire Edward Cullen to tackling the iconic role of DC comic-book hero Bruce Wayne / Batman in a new film about the Caped Crusader.
The casting was officially confirmed over the weekend with Pattinson being handed the batsuit ahead of fellow British actor Nicholas Hoult (X-Men series, Tolkien).
The news also marks the end of Ben Affleck’s involvement as the Dark Knight following his appearances in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017).
As well as following Affleck’s footsteps, Pattinson will also be taking on a role made famous by other renowned actors like Adam West, Michael Keaton, George Clooney and Christian Bale.
Entitled The Batman, the latest comic-book outing for the Bat will be helmed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, War for the Planet of the Apes) with a release date marked for June 25 2021.
