Married couple Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch go to war in The Roses trailer

A riotous trailer has landed for The Roses.

Based on the 1981 novel by Warren Adler, the upcoming dark comedy is a reimagining of the hit Danny DeVito film The War of the Roses (1989) and sees two of Britain’s biggest stars go head-to-head.

Directed by Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Bombshell) and adapted to the big-screen by Tony McNamara (The Favourite, The Great), the plot centres on a successful married couple who see their relationship spiral into oblivion as fierce competition and hidden resentment ignites their bitter feud.

Oscar winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Lost Daughter) and BAFTA winner Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, The Power of the Dog) take centre stage as our two leads alongside a steady support cast that includes Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Palm Springs), Allison Janney (The West Wing, I, Tonya), Belinda Bromilow (Doctor Doctor, The Great), Sunita Mani (Mr. Robot, GLOW), Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education, Doctor Who), Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats, Back in Action), Zoë Chao (The Afterparty, Nightbitch), and Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live, Barbie).

The Roses will be released in UK cinemas on 1 September.
