Fans of the Terminator franchise will certainly agree that the post-Judgement Day films have been a chore to sit through. The sci-fi series started well enough with its opening two films but soon suffered through the underwhelming reactions to its three future outings; Rise of the Machines (2003), Salvation (2009) and Genisys (2015).
As a result, James Cameron (director of the original two classics) has decided to revamp the series via a new reboot that will completely ignore the events of those films and be a definitive sequel to 1991’s Judgement Day.
Entitled Terminator: Dark Fate, the film has unveiled its new full-length trailer which promises action aplenty and the return of a couple of our favourite characters from the beloved originals.
Helmed by Deadpool director Tim Miller and produced by Cameron, the plot sees a war-weary Sarah Connor and the T-800 trying to protect a female cyborg who is being pursued by a sinister new Terminator.
The sequel marks the long-awaited return of Linda Hamilton who reprises her role as arse-kicking heroine Sarah Connor alongside the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800.
It has also been confirmed recently that Edward Furlong is set to make a shock comeback as Sarah’s son John having previously played the character in Judgement Day.
Additionally, there are some new faces to look out for including Mackenzie Davis (The Martian, Black Mirror: San Junipero) as cyborg Grace, Natalia Reyes (Cumbia Ninja, 2091), Tom Hopper (Game of Thrones, The Umbrella Academy) and Gabriel Luna (True Detective, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) as the new big bad.
Terminator: Dark Fate will be released in the UK on 23 October.
