When it comes to movie monsters, King Kong stands amongst them as one of the best along with Godzilla and Jaws.
But eleven years after his previous big-screen appearance, the intimidating ape is returning for a new cinematic outing set before the events of the original story, but with a new twist.
Entitled Kong: Skull Island, the action adventure also teams up two of Hollywood’s hottest stars in British actor Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, The Night Manager) and recent Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson (Trainwreck, Room) with the pair both looking to continue their promising careers.
The film’s official trailer premiered at Comic-Con last night which you can see below:
Directed by rookie filmmaker Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer), the story switches from the 1930s to the 1970s during the Vietnam War and focuses on a group of explorers who arrive at the dangerous Skull Island. Ex UK SAS man Captain James Conrad (Hiddleston) and photojournalist Weaver (Larson) lead the expedition but find themselves in the jungle with a primitive beast.
Samuel L. Jackson (Star Wars prequel trilogy, The Avengers franchise) adds yet another appearance to his remarkable filmography with the rest of the support cast including John Goodman (Monsters Inc, Argo), John C. Reilly (Wreck-It-Ralph, Guardians of the Galaxy), Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Fantastic Four), Thomas Mann (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire, American Hustle) and Straight Outta Compton duo Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell.
This will be the fourth big-screen outing for Kong following his previous incarnations in 1933, 1976 and Peter Jackson’s 2005 effort.
Kong: Skull Island will be released in the UK on 10th March 2017.
