Alexander Skarsgard swings around as Tarzan in The Legend of Tarzan trailer

Back in 1999, Disney tackled the story of the vine-swinging man Tarzan in the animated flick Tarzan (yes, the one with songs from Phil Collins!).

The studio are now adding the film to their lineup of animated classics to receive a live-action update which include Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and next year’s The Jungle Book.

True Blood star Alexander Skarsgård plays the iconic ape-man in the new-look film The Legend of Tarzan which premiered its official trailer earlier today.

Directed by David Yates (Harry Potter series), the story focuses on Tarzan’s life from when he was raised by apes in the jungle to living in London for a period with his lover Jane. However he decides to return to his original home in order to stop a group of bandits from terrorising his ape family.

The beautiful Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Suicide Squad) plays Jane while regular bad guy actor Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds, Spectre) has the unsurprising role of playing the chief villain.

Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, The Avengers), Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator, Guardians of the Galaxy), Jim Broadbent (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Harry Potter series) and John Hurt (Alien, The Elephant Man) also feature in the action adventure.

The Legend of Tarzan will be released in the UK on July 8th 2016.
