Ben Affleck attempts to rescue US diplomats in Iran in official trailer for Argo

A couple of years after making the acclaimed thriller The Town, Oscar-winning actor/director Ben Affleck is back in the chair for his new film Argo with the first trailer now up.

Affleck directs and stars in the political drama which is based on the story of six US diplomats being rescued from Tehran during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. This led to US and Canadian governments coming up with a story that the diplomats were actually members of a camera crew who were scouting for a fictional movie titled Argo in order to rescue them from their embassy in Iran.

Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, John Goodman and Oscar-winner Alan Arkin are amongst the supporting cast with the film due out on September 14th.

Though a lot of people aren’t fans of Affleck in terms of his acting, he did gain credibility for making The Town as well as 2007’s Gone Baby Gone, and the trailer here shows more promise for his solid directing career so far.
