Tom Hardy and Harry Styles battle to surive in WWII in trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk

Having tackled Batman, space and our conscience in recent years, Christopher Nolan has turned his attention to World War II for his latest film.

The director of Inception (2010), Interstellar (2014) and The Dark Knight trilogy (2005-12) has assembled a strong cast of British talent to take part in his upcoming war drama Dunkirk.

Based on his own screenplay, the film has premiered its official trailer.

Set during the Battle of France in World War II, the plot focuses on a group of allied soldiers from Britain, Belgium and France who were cut off and surrounded by the German army from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, France, between May 27th and June 4th 1940.

Inception and Dark Knight stars Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant) and Cillian Murphy (Sunshine, Peaky Blinders) reunite with director and are joined by Oscar-winner Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies, The BFG), Kenneth Branagh (My Week with Marilyn, Wallander), James D’Arcy (Cloud Atlas, Agent Carter), Jack Lowden (The Tunnel, War & Peace) and Kevin Guthrie (Sunset Song, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them).

Dedicated fans of the British pop group One Direction will also be anticipating the acting debut of singer Harry Styles who is glimpsed at a few times in the trailer.

Dunkirk will be released in cinemas on July 21st 2017.
