As one of our greatest living actors, Tom Hanks has enjoyed a very productive career that has seen him star in a variety of successful films.
The two-time Oscar winner has also taken on the roles of several real-life figures which include Jim Lovell, Charlie Wilson, Captain Richard Phillips, Walt Disney, James B. Donovan and Chesley Sullenberger.
The Forrest Gump and Toy Story star is now tackling another renowned individual in the form of American television host Fred “Mister” Rogers in the upcoming biopic A Beautiful Day in the Neighorhood. The film’s official trailer has landed and looks to be another potential hit for Hanks whose last Oscar nomination came way back in 2001!
Directed by Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Can You Ever Forgive Me?), the film centres on a cynical journalist who gets the opportunity to write an article about Mister Rogers. The pair go on to forge a strong bond as the writer learns about empathy, kindness and decency from America’s most beloved neighbour.
Emmy-award winner Matthew Rhys (The Post, The Americans) co-stars as journalist Lloyd Vogel with the rest of the cast including Susan Kelechi Watson (The Blacklist, This is Us), Enrico Colantoni (Person of Interest, Veronica Mars), Tammy Blanchard (Moneyball, Into the Woods) and Oscar-winner Chris Cooper (Adaptation, Seabiscuit).
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood will be released in the UK on 6 December.
