For many cinephiles, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has built a strong profile for himself with his work on acclaimed films like Prisoners (2013), Sicario (2015), Arrival (2016) and more recently, Blade Runner 2049 (2017).

In the case of the latter film, the Canadian director garnered strong praise for making a strong sequel to Ridley Scott’s original 1982 classic. Coincidentally, his next big-screen project is based on another cult sci-fi classic from the 80s; Dune.

A remake of David Lynch’s 1984 effort, the film is aiming to surpass its predecessor with a lucrative cast and stunning visuals as indicated in its official (and atmospheric) trailer.

Adapted from the novel by Frank Herbert, the plot centres on the son of a noble family who is entrusted with the protection of the most valuable asset and most vital element in the galaxy.

Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name, Little Women) tackles the lead role of Paul Atreides with Emmy-nominated actress Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home, Euphoria) co-starring as Chani.

Additionally, the film’s starry ensemble also includes Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina, Star Wars saga), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Doctor Sleep), Josh Brolin (Sicario, Avengers: Endgame), Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Skyfall), Jason Mamoa (Game of Thrones, Aquaman), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Spectre), Stellan Skarsgård (The Avengers, Chernobyl), David Dastmalchian (Prisoners, Ant-Man and the Wasp), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences) and Charlotte Rampling (45 Years, Red Sparrow).

Dune will be released in UK cinemas on December 18.
