The Tham Luang cave rescue gets the big-screen treatment in official trailer for Thirteen Lives

A gripping trailer for Prime Video’s Thirteen Lives has landed online.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard (Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man), the factual drama depicts the remarkable true story of the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue in which a team of global experts and volunteers came together to try and save the lives of twelve Thai boys and their football coach after they were trapped in a system of underground caves threatened by flooding.

Three-time Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Green Book), Golden Globe winner Colin Farrell (In Bruges, The Batman) and Golden Globe nominee Joel Edgerton (Warrior, Loving) portray real-life divers Rick Stanton, John Volanthen and Richard Harris respectively.

The rest of the film’s cast includes Tom Bateman (Murder on the Orient Express, Behind her Eyes), Paul Gleeson (The Thin Red Line, Home and Away), Pattrakorn Tungsupakul (The Perfect Couple), Theerapat Sajakul (My Best Bodyguard, The Maid), Teeradon Supapunpinyo (Homestay, Bad Genius), Sahajak Boonthanakit (Only God Forgives, The Serpent), and Sukollawat Kanaros (Malila: The Farewell Flower, Bangkok Breaking).

Touted as a potential awards contender next year, Thirteen Lives will be released in select cinemas on July 29 before launching on Prime Video from 5 August.
