The origins of Middle Earth are explored in new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

An epic new trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is finally here.

Amazon’s landmark television series is a new adaptation of the beloved J.R.R. Tolkien novels that will take viewers back to an era set thousands of years before the events of both The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings.

The story will cover all the major events of Middle-earth’s Second Age including the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, and the last alliance between Elves and Men.

While the series is not linked to Peter Jackson’s acclaimed cinematic saga, fans will still get the chance to meet a couple of familiar characters with Robert Aramayo (Game of Thrones, Behind Her Eyes), BAFTA-nominee Morfydd Clark (The Personal History of David Copperfield, Saint Maud) and Maxim Baldry (Hollyoaks, Years and Years) cast as Elrond, Galadriel and Isildur respectively.

Additionally, the fantasy epic also bolsters a strong support cast including Nazanin Boniadi (Homeland, Hotel Mumbai), Ismael Cruz Cordova (Ray Donovan, The Undoing), Charles Edwards (Downton Abbey, The Crown), Lenny Henry (The Lenny Henry Show, Broadchurch), Markella Kavenagh (The Cry, First Summer), Joseph Mawle (Game of Thrones, Birdsong), Simon Merrells (The Wolfman, Spartacus), Peter Mullan (Tyrannosaur, Ozark), Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Jessica Jones) and Daniel Weyman (Foyle’s War, Silent Witness).

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere its first episode on Prime Video on 2 September.
