When film fans think about fairy-tales, they tend to relate them to Disney.
The money-making studio have made several successful adaptations of beloved fairy-tales whether they be animated or live-action. Lately they’ve been making these films in both formats such as The Jungle Book (2016) and last year’s Beauty and the Beast.
One piece that hadn’t been given the treatment beforehand was The Nutcracker which started out as a published story before being adapted to an acclaimed ballet by renowned composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
However Disney have finally produced their take on the beloved tale with their latest live-action film The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Following the release of its teaser preview last Christmas, a new full length trailer has now premiered.
Directed by Lasse Hallström (The Cider House Rules, Chocolat), the story centres on a girl named Clara who enters a weird and wonderful parallel universe. There she meets the Sugarplum Fairy before taking on the tyrant Mother Ginger in a bid to restore harmony to the four realms.
Mackenzie Foy (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part I & II, Interstellar) plays the young heroine with her strong co-stars including Keira Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean series, The Imitation Game) as the Sugarplum Fairy, Dame Helen Mirren (The Queen, Trumbo) as Mother Ginger and Morgan Freeman (The Shawshank Redemption, The Dark Knight trilogy) as Drosselmeyer.
The rest of the cast includes Matthew Macfadyen (Pride & Prejudice, Ripper Street), Jack Whitehall (Bad Education, Fresh Meat), Miranda Hart (Call the Midwife, Miranda), Richard E. Grant (Game of Thrones, Logan), Omad Djalili (The Mummy, Stan Lee’s Lucky Man), Ellie Bamber (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Nocturnal Animals) and real-life ballerina Misty Copeland.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms will be released in the UK on November 2nd.
