For almost a decade, Marvel Studios have led the way in catapulting the superhero genre to new heights with their multi-billion dollar films ranging from the two Avengers installments to the Iron Man, Captain America and Thor trilogies.
The incredible success began back in 2008 when Robert Downey Jr. relaunched his acting career with his memorable portrayal of Tony Stark / Iron Man and since then, Marvel has never looked back. While fans found themselves ‘marveling’ over the Avengers films, their excitement levels are now set to go up even more for the most ambitious outing of the series so far.
The much-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War is set to feature over 80(!) renowned characters from previous Marvel outings as they all come together for their greatest challenge yet.
Fans will be delighted to know that the superhero epic’s official trailer has finally landed and promises a stupendous amount of action and thrills.
After collaborating on previous Marvel hits Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2013) and Captain America: Civil War (2016), the Russo brothers have been given the almighty task of directing the mammoth project. The plot will see the Avengers and their companions team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy as they battle to stop the evil Thanos from destroying Earth.
The very large cast is once again led by our favourite Avengers which are Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark / Iron Man), Chris Evans (Steve Rogers / Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner / Hulk), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff) and Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton / Hawkeye).
Additionally, the Phase 2 / 3 Avengers are also involved which consists of Tom Holland (Peter Parker / Spider-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Stephen Strange), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang / Ant-Man), Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa / Black Panther), Don Cheadle (James Rhodes / War Machine), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson / Falcon), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier) and Paul Bettany (Vision).
Furthermore, the Guardians of the Galaxy will also feature with Chris Pratt (Peter Quill / Star-Lord), Zoe Saldaña (Gamora) and Dave Bautista (Drax) appearing while Vin Diesel (Groot) and Bradley Cooper (Rocket Racoon) reprise their vocal roles. Josh Brolin is back as chief antagonist Thanos along with other Guardians actors like Karen Gillan (Nebula), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector) and Pom Klementieff (Mantis).
Recent Marvel outings are also well represented with Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Benedict Wong (Wong), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Letitia Wright (Shuri) and Winston Duke (M’Baku) all popping up in the film.
And finally, we have popular veterans of the series returning such as Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill) though there appears to be no involvement at all for Samuel L. Jackson as Avengers boss Nick Fury or Brie Larson as new Marvel heroine Captain Marvel.
There is one big-name newcomer to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) features in an unspecified role.
Avengers: Infinity War will be released in the UK on April 27th 2018.
