Taron Egerton showcases his singing talents as music legend Elton John in new Rocketman trailer

For music lovers, Sir Elton John ‘still stands’ as one of the greatest artists of all time. For the past fifty years, he has captivated audiences with his incredible resume of songs which include “Your Song”, “Tiny Dancer”, “Rocket Man”, “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting”, “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”, “I’m Still Standing” and “Candle in the Wind”.

The legendary singer’s life is now the subject of an upcoming biopic entitled Rocketman which sees Birkenhead-born actor Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Eddie the Eagle) tackle the lucrative lead role. The film is following in the footsteps of the recent Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody which also happened to be (partially) helmed by this project’s director Dexter Fletcher.

Following the release of a teaser promo last year, a new full-length trailer has premiered online which shows us more of Taron’s talented singing voice.

The plot focuses on Elton’s breakthrough years from his childhood (under the birth name of Reginald Dwight) to his successful and flamboyant career in the music industry. It also depicts his struggles with alcohol and drug addictions as well as his sexuality.

Amongst the solid names supporting Egerton in the film are Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool) as long-time songwriter Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Bodyguard) as Elton’s former manager and lover John Reid and Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, Jurassic World) as Elton’s mother Sheila Farebrother.

The rest of the ensemble cast includes Stephen Graham (This is England series, Little Boy Blue), Tate Donovan (The O.C., Argo), Tom Bennett (Love & Friendship, David Brent: Life on the Road), Charlie Rowe (The Boat That Rocked, Vanity Fair), Steven Mackintosh (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Stan Lee’s Lucky Man), Harriet Walter (Law & Order: UK, The Crown) and Gemma Jones (Harry Potter series, Bridget Jones trilogy).

Though it still feels like a long, long time of waiting, Rocketman will hit cinemas on May 31st 2019.
