Science teacher Ryan Gosling wakes up on a spaceship light years from home in Project Hail Mary trailer

An intriguing trailer has premiered for Project Hail Mary.

Directed by long-time collaborators Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie), the upcoming sci-fi drama sees Hollywood superstar Ryan Gosling (First Man, Barbie) take centre stage in what looks to be a fun ride for film fans.

Based on the best-selling novel by Andy Weir, the story follows a science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory slowly returns, he soon discovers that he must solve the riddle behind a mysterious substance that is causing the sun to die out.

Gosling is joined in the film by Sandra Hüller (Toni Erdmann, Anatomy of a Fall), James Ortiz (The Woodsman), Lionel Boyce (The Bear, Motor City), Milana Vayntrub (This is Us, Werewolves Within), Malachi Kirby (Small Axe, A Thousand Blows) and Ken Leung (Lost, Industry).

Project Hail Mary will arrive in UK cinemas on 20 March 2026.
