Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff returns to action prior to the events of Endgame in new Black Widow trailer

When Marvel fans last saw Natasha Romanoff on our screens, she made the tragic decision to sacrifice herself in order to help Hawkeye retrieve the Soul Stone in last year’s superhero epic Avengers: Endgame.

But despite that shocking moment in the Marvel series, actress Scarlett Johansson is reprising her role for the ninth time with her character FINALLY taking centre stage in the upcoming spin-off Black Widow.

Also set prior to the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the film’s new full-length trailer has officially landed.

Directed by Cate Shortland (The Secret Life of Us, SMILF), the story sees Nat finding herself alone and forced to confront a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, she must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

The spin-off also features a number of talented newcomers to the MCU including British starlet Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family, Little Women) as Yelena Belova, David Harbour (Stranger Things, Hellboy) as Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian, O-T Fagbenle (The Five, The Handmaid’s Tale) as Rick Mason, Ray Winstone (The Departed, King of Thieves) in an unspecified role and Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, The Favourite) as Melina Vostokoff.

Despite his character’s emotional death in Endgame, Robert Downey Jr. is set to appear in his iconic role as Tony Stark / Iron Man though it is likely to just be a cameo.

ScarJo has already enjoyed a successful start to the year with double Oscar nominations for her performances in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit. Coincidentally, co-star Florence also landed her first nod for her supporting role in Little Women.

Touted as one of this year’s biggest blockbusters, Black Widow will be released in the UK on 1 May.
