“Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin can openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance….“
Twenty years ago, the gritty Scottish drama Trainspotting was released in cinemas and became a critical success.
The big-screen adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel focused on a young man trying to break away from his dysfunctional group of friends whilst battling an ongoing heroin addiction.
For many years, a sequel had been on the cards, but constant delays meant that a return seemed unlikely. However, fans of the original film will be ‘ecstatic’ to know that the wait is finally over as its sequel T2: Trainspotting comes out early next year.
The official trailer, which unsurprisingly features drugs and Born Slippy’s ‘Underworld’, has been unveiled online.
Directed again by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle (Shallow Grave, Slumdog Millionaire), the little-known plot sees Mark Renton return home after twenty years to a mixed reception from his old friends Spud, Sickboy and the psychotic Begbie. However, the group soon find themselves getting involved in the vice industry whilst experiencing love and drugs once again.
Ewan McGregor (Renton), Ewen Bremner (Spud), Johnny Lee Miller (Sickboy) and Robert Carlyle (Begbie) all reprise their iconic roles while there are also welcoming returns from some of the original film’s supporting cast, including Kelly Macdonald (Diane), Shirley Henderson (Gail), Irvine Welsh (Mikey Forrester) and James Cosmo (Mr Renton).
T2: Trainspotting will be released in the UK on 27 January 2017.
