NBA superstar LeBron James teams up with the Looney Tunes in Space Jam: A New Legacy trailer

25 years ago, film fans were treated to one of the most bizarre on-screen collaborations of all time in the form of Space Jam.

The live-action family comedy saw basketball legend Michael Jordan help the Looney Tunes prevail in a crucial match against a criminal alien group. Despite underwhelming reviews, the film was an unlikely box-office hit that benefitted from the unlikely crossover as well as product placement and THAT iconic R.Kelly song.

Now after all these years, the Space Jam story is finally returning with a new film that sees another NBA legend in LeBron James teaming up with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and co. in the upcoming Space Jam: A New Legacy.

The sequel’s wacky trailer has officially been released and promises to be even more epic than its predecessor.

Helmed by Malcolm D. Lee (Girls Trip, Night School), the plot sees LeBron find himself trapped in a digital space for which his son ends up being taken away from him.

He is then forced to seek help from Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes as they are then participate in a winner-takes-all basketball match against a new enemy.

The rest of the cast includes Oscar nominee Don Cheadle (Iron Man 3, Avengers: Endgame) as the film’s villain plus Khris Davis (Atlanta, Judas and the Black Messiah), Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead, Star Trek: Discovery) and newcomer Cedric Joe (Modern Family, Loving Him).

Additionally, the film reintroduces us to other beloved Looney Tunes including Lola Bunny, Sylvester, Tweety, Yosemite Sam, Elmer Fudd, Foghorn Leghorn, Wile E. Coyote, Roadrunner and the Tasmanian Devil.

The expanded universe also hints at other major franchises to appear including Game of Thrones, the Flintstones, the Animaniacs, and the Iron Giant.

Space Jam: A New Legacy will be released in the UK on July 23.
