Michael Bay confirms Transformers 4 will be start of new trilogy

Having made big bucks on the robotic action-series Transformers, director Michael Bay looks to be continuing his passion for the films after he issued a statement on his website saying that upcoming sequel Transformers 4 will be the start of another trilogy.

In what sounds like a bold yet risky move, Bay has also insisted that the fourth film will not be a reboot but will follow-on from the events of Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011).

“This movie takes place exactly 4 years after the war in Chicago. The story makes a very natural transition, and reason as to why we have a whole new cast. This Transformers will feel very different then the last three. We are embarking on a new trilogy.”

Mark Wahlberg (The Departed, Ted) has been cast as the new lead character of the franchise replacing original star Shia LaBeouf (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Lawless). Bay went on to reveal in his statement that Irish actor Jack Reynor (What Richard Did) has also landed a role in the latest sequel.

“Reynor is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket. Pretty ballsy. Seriously, who does that? This kid is the real deal.”

Transformers 4 is scheduled for release on June 27th 2015.

Further blockbuster success or over-the-top greed? A lot of people will be thinking the latter….
