Matt Damon and Christian Bale help Ford take on Ferrari in Le Mans ’66 trailer

Films about racing have not quite achieved great success on the big-screen compared to other hit sports like football, boxing and golf. Saying that though, Rush (2013) was a terrific exception….

However racing fans can now look forward to a new film that focuses on one of the greatest car rivalries of all time.

Entitled Le Mans ’66 (or Ford vs. Ferrari in America), the upcoming biopic has unveiled its official trailer and sees Hollywood superstar Matt Damon (The Bourne series, The Martian) and Oscar-winner Christian Bale (The Dark Knight trilogy, Vice) both take centre stage.

Directed by James Mangold (Walk the Line, Logan), the film centres on American car designer Carroll Shelby (Damon) and British driver Ken Miles (Bale) as the pair battle corporate interference, the laws of physics and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford and challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.

The film’s support cast includes Caitriona Balfe (Outlander, Now You See Me), Jon Bernthal (Baby Driver, The Punisher), Noah Jupe (Wonder, A Quiet Place), Josh Lucas (American Psycho, Hulk), Ray McKinnon (Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy), JJ Feild (Captain America: The First Avenger, TURN: Washington’s Spies) and Tracy Letts (Homeland, The Post).

Le Mans ’66 will be gearing up for release in the UK on 15 November.
