Marvel outlines Phases 5 and 6 including Fantastic Four and two new Avengers films

Last night saw Marvel Studios announce an epic slate of new films and television series that will stretch across Phases 5 and 6.

President Kevin Feige and his team laid out their plans for the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) during a productive panel session at San Diego Comic Con.

Feige confirmed that the current Phase 4 will conclude with both the upcoming mini-series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and the Black Panther sequel Wakanda Forever.

A new trailer for She-Hulk was shown with Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black, Stronger) tackling the role of Jennifer Walters, a struggling lawyer who is forced to adjust to her life as a superhero with the help of her cousin Bruce Banner / The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). The series is due to land on Disney+ on 17 August.

For Black Panther fans, an emotional teaser trailer for Wakanda Forever was presented to rapturous approval from those in the audience. Directed again by Ryan Coogler, the sequel focuses on how the people of Wakanda battle to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death.

After the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman in 2020, the film will be led by other Black Panther stars including Letitia Wright (as T’Challa’s sister Shuri), Lupita Nyong’o (as Nakia) and Angela Bassett (as Ramonda). Additionally, the follow-up also welcomes new cast members including BAFTA winner Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum, I May Destroy You), Dominique Thorne (If Beale Street Could Talk, Judas and the Black Messiah) and Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico, The Forever Purge).

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released in cinemas on 11 November.

Next, Feige unveiled his plans for the upcoming Phase 5 that will include EIGHT new films and series in 2023 starting with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Due for release on 17 February, the ‘threequel’ sees Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang relish his new celebrity status only to neglect his daughter Cassie and their family. However, things take an awkward turn when they are forced to navigate the Quantum Realm and all of its dangers.

After making his screen debut in the final episode of Loki (2021), Jonathan Majors returns as the villainous Kang the Conqueror alongside Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu) as the newly-recast Cassie and Bill Murray (Ghostbusters, Lost in Translation) in an unspecified role.

The first mini-series of 2023 will be Secret Invasion which sees Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos battling a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.

Don Cheadle (James Rhodes / War Machine) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill) will also reprise their roles alongside renowned British stars Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones, Last Christmas) and Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Lost Daughter).

Next, there’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 in which the story sees Peter Quill / Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) attempt to win over Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) while Rocket Racoon’s (voiced by Bradley Cooper) tragic past is explored.

Scheduled for release on 5 May, the film welcomes more MCU newcomers including Will Poulter (We’re the Millers, Dopesick) as Adam Warlock and Oscar-nominee Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Bodies Bodies Bodies) as Cosmo the Spacedog.

The last of the 2023 film releases will be The Marvels. Scheduled for July 28, the superhero outing sees Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) team up with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) for a dangerous mission.

Additionally, there are a variety of 2023 series to look forward to including the Hawkeye spin-off Echo, a second series of Loki and Autumn releases for both Ironheart, and Blade.

2024 will then bring Daredevil into the MCU via the upcoming eighteen-episode series Daredevil: Born Again. As expected, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise their popular roles as Matt Murdock and Kingpin respectively.

On 23 May 2024, Anthony Mackie has his first cinematic outing as the new Captain America in the upcoming film Captain America: New World Order with Thunderbolts set to conclude Phase 5 on 28 July 2024.

As for the shorter Phase 6, it has been confirmed that a new Fantastic Four film will finally arrive in cinemas on 8 November 2024. That will then wrap with two new Avengers films; The Kang Dynasty (2 May 2025) and Secret Wars (7 November 2025).
