Lawyer Tom Hanks gets caught up in the Cold War in official trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies

Tom Hanks stars as James Donovan in the incredible story of an ordinary man placed in extraordinary circumstances in DreamWorks Pictures/Fox 2000 PIctures' dramatic thriller BRIDGE OF SPIES, directed by Steven Spielberg.

Two of Hollywood’s biggest heavyweights are set to collaborate on their sixth major project together in what has been a busy few days for film trailers!

Two-time Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump, Captain Phillips) and legendary director Steven Spielberg (Jaws, E.T: The Extra Terrestrial, Schindler’s List) have reunited to help make the upcoming Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies.

The film’s official trailer has premiered online.

Adapted by Ethan & Joel Coen (Fargo, No Country for Old Men), it tells the true story of James Donovan (Hanks), a Brooklyn lawyer who is hired by the CIA to defend a Russian spy as well as travel to a divided Berlin to negotiate the safe release of a US pilot whose plane has been shot down in the Soviet Union.

The film’s support cast includes Mark Rylance (The Other Boleyn Girl, The BFG), Amy Ryan (The Wire, Birdman), Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others, A Good Day to Die Hard) and Alan Alda (M*A*S*H, The Aviator).

Hanks and Spielberg previously worked together on the war epic Saving Private Ryan (1998), the conman drama Catch Me If You Can (2002) and the airport comedy The Terminal (2004). They also collaborated on war-based television shows Band of Brothers (2001) and The Pacific (2010).

Bridge of Spies will be released in the UK on October 9th.
