Half a century ago, real-life acting husband and wife Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn collaborated on several films together up until the former’s death in the late 1960s.
Since then, Hollywood stars tend to not work with each other on more than one project but two particular actors are starting to follow in the footsteps of Messrs Tracy and Hepburn.
After first appearing together in the gritty romantic dramedy Silver Linings Playbook (2012), Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone, The Hunger Games series) and Bradley Cooper (The Hangover trilogy, American Sniper) are set to reunite in their fourth project in the form of the upcoming biopic Joy.
Collaborating again with their director David O. Russell (Three Kings, The Fighter), the pair can be seen in the film’s official trailer.
Based on a true story, the film charts the life of Joy Mangano (Lawrence) who founded Ingenious Designs which resulted in the making of the Miracle Mop. However she would endure the frustrations of having to juggle her business empire with her responsibilities as a single mother to three children. Amongst those willing to help include an HSN executive (Cooper) who is impressed by her hard work and dedication.
Since the success of Silver Linings, Lawrence and Cooper have also worked on the crime caper American Hustle (2013) and last year’s Depression-era drama Serena (2014).
Another high-profile star makes his third appearance in an O. Russell film as two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas) plays Mangano’s father.
The rest of the starry ensemble include Edgar Ramírez (Vantage Point, Zero Dark Thirty), Diane Ladd (Chinatown, Wild at Heart), Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet, Death Becomes Her) and Virginia Madsen (Sideways, The Number 23).
Joy is scheduled for release in January 2016.
