Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane to host the 85th Oscars

With just a few months to go before the 85th Annual Academy Awards, the producers of the ceremony have made a bold but inspiring choice of individual to host the show in the shape of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane!

The news of MacFarlane’s new role was announced in a press release from the Oscar website earlier today with telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron giving their thoughts on the news.

“We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh. He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him.”

MacFarlane himself also gave his reaction to the news which is bound to raise a few eyebrows in Hollywood….

“It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars. My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.”

Having broken into television with his work on the popular animated show Family Guy (which includes voicing main characters Peter Griffin, Brian and Stewie), he has also had co-creator roles with other cartoons including American Dad and The Cleveland Show. He finally broke into big-screen work this summer with his vulgar comedy Ted which saw him direct the film and voice the foul-mouthed teddy bear.

The 2013 Oscars will take place at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Centre in LA.

This decision certainly won’t please most people in Hollywood who’ve been on the receiving end of MacFarlane’s dark jokes in Family Guy but you definitely expect him to provide laughs and a few oo-ers amongst his audiences. This is a show NOT to be missed!
