Emilia Clarke falls for wheelchair-bound Sam Claflin in Me Before You trailer

Having become widely known to audiences for her iconic television role as Daenarys “Khaleesi” Targaryen in HBO’s epic fantasy series Game of Thrones, British actress Emilia Clarke has been trying to prove her potential in other projects particularly on the big screen.

Admittedly, things didn’t quite work out for her when she played Sarah Connor in the recent sci-fi blockbuster Terminator: Genisys and it is looking unlikely that she will be reprising the role following the film’s disappointing reviews.

However, she has opted to go down a more conventional route by starring in the upcoming romantic dramedy Me Before You, with the official trailer released earlier today.

Helmed by Thea Sharrock (The Hollow Crown, Call the Midwife) and based on the acclaimed novel by Jojo Moyes, the film sees Clarke play Lou, a small-town girl who loses her job as a cafe waitress and tries to find other work. Despite being unqualified, she manages to land a job working as a carer for a paralysed upper-class man. The pair soon forge an unlikely bond which leads to romance blossoming despite his physical condition.

Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games series, Love, Rosie) co-stars as the disabled young man with additional support coming from Jenna Colman (Emmerdale, Doctor Who), Matthew Lewis (Harry Potter series, Ripper Street), Janet McTeer (Tumbleweeds, Albert Nobbs) and Clarke’s former Game of Thrones co-star Charles Dance (Last Action Hero, The Imitation Game).

Looking as though it’ll have a varied mix of comedy and emotional drama, Me Before You will be released on June 3rd.
