De Niro, Pacino and Pesci return to the mob genre in new trailer for Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman

Fans of Martin Scorsese know exactly what to expect from his films especially those that are crime-related!

Having been responsible for the likes of Mean Streets (1973), Goodfellas (1990), Casino (1994) and The Departed (2006), the Oscar-winning director is now returning to the genre with his upcoming biopic The Irishman.

What makes the Netflix film more exciting is the incredible cast involved with Marty getting the chance to work with some familiar faces including his long-time collaborator Robert De Niro (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas) and a first gig with acting legend Al Pacino (The Godfather trilogy, Scarface).

Following the release of a teaser in July, a new full-length trailer has premiered online and promises plenty for loyal Scorsese / De Niro / Pacino fans.

Set over a few decades, the film focuses on union official Frank ‘The Irishman’ Sheeran (De Niro) who gets in deep with the wrong people which then leads up to the infamous disappearance of labour union leader Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino) in 1975.

As well as Bobby and Al, the crime epic also marks a big comeback role for Oscar-winner Joe Pesci (Raging Bull, Goodfellas) who is starring in only his third film since 1998. Significantly, the crime epic relies on the use of de-aging CGI to make the actors look younger as the film shows them over a period of many years.

Additionally, the rest of the talented ensemble cast includes another Marty collaborator in Harvey Keitel (Mean Streets, Taxi Driver) plus Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire, Vinyl), Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, The Post), Anna Paquin (The Piano, True Blood), Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire, Line of Duty), Domenick Lombardozzi (The Wire, Ray Donovan), Aleska Palladino (Boardwalk Empire, The Loudest Voice) and Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond, Vinyl).

This is the fourth collaboration between De Niro and Pacino who previously worked together on The Godfather: Part II (1974), Heat (1995) and the crime flop Righteous Kill (2008). Here’s hoping this film is a return to form!

Clocking in at a (very) lengthy 210 minutes, The Irishman will be released in selected UK cinemas on 8 November and then on Netflix on 27 November.
