David Brent film in the works, Ricky Gervais to reprise role

In the last year or so, beloved British sitcom characters like Alan Partridge and Mrs Brown have made the successful transition from small-screen to big-screen with their own individual films.

But another iconic television character is about to make his long-awaited comeback via the cinematic route. Or should we say mockumentary route!

As predicted by many, Ricky Gervais will be reprising his iconic role as the buffoonish business manager David Brent in a big-screen spin-off entitled ‘Life on the Road’.

BBC Films issued a statement about the upcoming film to address what Brent would be up to:

“We find out what Brent is doing now and what’s happened in the last 15 years since his redundancy from his beloved Wernham Hogg.

He’s a sales rep now, selling cleaning products up and down the country, but has never really given up on his dream of being a rock star.”

Gervais also spoke about Brent’s predicament in the film’s potential plot:

“He thinks it’ll be like Scorsese filming The Rolling Stones, but it turns out to be a ‘where are they now’ documentary. He has to take a few weeks off work and cash in a couple of pensions, because the session musicians in the band are costing him more than he’s getting in ticket sales. Tragic.”

Gervais portrayed the character in the renowned BBC series ‘The Office‘ (2001-03) and recently appeared as him again in a 2013 Youtube clip for Comic Relief.

Filming will begin on the spin-off in 2015 right after Gervais concludes his comedy tour.
